Uddhav Thackeray Urges Ganesh Mandals to Uphold Dignity Amid Political Maneuvering

Uddhav Thackeray urges Ganesh Mandals to keep the festival simple

**Mumbai, August 30, 2024** — Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has called on Ganesh mandal office-bearers and activists in Mumbai to uphold their dignity while interacting with ruling party leaders during the Ganesh festival. Thackeray made these remarks at a coordination committee meeting of Ganesh Mandals on Thursday evening, emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity amidst political overtures.

A Call for Dignity and Political Change

Thackeray drew a parallel between the Ganesh festival and the political landscape, stating, "After the Ganesh festival, it’s time to immerse the Mahayuti government." He urged mandals to be cautious while accepting assistance from ruling party members, cautioning them against compromising their principles. "Now, during the Ganesh festival, ruling party leaders will come up with various offers to help. It’s a fact that mandals need financial and other assistance for their operations and celebrations. But while accepting help from them, don’t compromise your dignity and don’t sell your soul," Thackeray advised.

In his speech, Thackeray criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly using divisive tactics, contrasting this with the approach of Lokmanya Tilak, who he claimed used the Ganesh festival to unite people. Thackeray accused the BJP of "dividing society and practicing a divide-and-rule policy."

The opposition leader also took aim at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his administration, referencing their handling of recent incidents. "Let’s pray to Ganpati Bappa to give us strength to defeat this government, which is insensitive to women’s safety and has engaged in corruption regarding the work on the Shivaji Maharaj statue," Thackeray stated. He criticized the current government for its perceived negligence, mentioning issues like the Badlapur incident and the collapse of the Shivaji statue, and lamented the lack of effective governance in both Mumbai and the state.

Strengthening Ties Ahead of Elections

Thackeray’s comments came as part of a broader effort to strengthen ties with Ganesh mandals ahead of upcoming assembly elections. He reminisced about the Shiv Sena’s historical collaboration with Ganesh mandals on social campaigns, including initiatives like "Me Mumbaikar" and various health awareness programs.

Overall, Thackeray’s message was a blend of political critique and a call for ethical conduct, aiming to navigate the complex intersection of politics and cultural celebrations.
